ABOUT
The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) is the world’s largest and most influential organization in sports medicine, exercise science, and the promotion of physical activity. The ACSM’s main flagship event is the Annual Meeting, which brings together more than 6 000 professionals for the largest conference in sports science in the world. This year is the 71st Annual Meeting, and the conference is held in Boston, Massachusetts from May 28 to 31, 2024.

OUR CONTRIBUTION
I presented a poster related to my PhD project at the University of Greenwich, in the poster sessions. The regular poster presentation don’t have an official oral presentation here at the ACSM Meetings, but the presenters have certain time slots when they have to be in front of their posters for any questions from the audience. During my poster slot, I answered questions and engaged in interesting discussion, in addition to having my poster in the conference poster area for a half day. The abstract is published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, Volume 56, and together with our poster are both available for download on this page. The study will be built upon further by adding more participants, and the complete findings will be published in an international journal.
SUMMARY
This was my first ACSM Annual Meeting face-to-face, and being part of the most important event in the world in sports medicine, exercise science and physical activity is fantastic. Morever, this was a huge moment as it was my first time in the USA. The Annual Meeting was attended by 4276 participants (1253 of whom were from outside the USA). Although, it didn’t feel crowded due to the huge size of the convention centre, this makes it the biggest conference I have attended so far.
On the 31st of May 2024, I took part in the Gisolfi 5K Run as part of the ACSM Annual Meeting. My finish time was 28.10 min and that ranked me in 177th place.
During this one week, I also had the opportunity to visit New York City, and I represented the GB Masters Gymnastics Team at the 2024 Masters Gymnastics World Cup in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Overall, these were one of the best moments in my life.
