National Sports Academy 'Vassil Levski', Sofia

This is the National Sports Academy 'Vassil Levski', Sofia. I studed here for my Bachelor's degree from 2007 to 2011, as well as for my Master's degree from 2011 to 2012. I also completed a part-time PhD degree at the Sports Academy from 2015 to 2018, and obtained the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

The Higher Institute for Physical Culture (known as the National Sports Academy) was founded by Decree of His Majesty King Boris III in 1942, as a university level educational institution from which PE Teachers and Sports coaches have graduated up to the present day. In 1995 the Higher Institute of Physical Culture was renamed the National Sports Academy (NSA) by decision of the National Assembly, and a new modern educational complex was inaugurated. The full, current name, National Sports Academy 'Vassil Levski', was given full legal status in 1999, by a resolution of the National Assembly.

While I was conducting my PhD research in London, UK, I was asked for more information about the institution I am preparing this study for, and therefore I created this video. Special thanks to David Page (Voice-over), London Meridian college.

The NSA is the only university which fully specialises in Sports Science in Bulgaria, as well as being one of the few sports universities in Europe. The Sports Academy organises educational programmes in the fields of Sport, Physical Education and Physiotherapy at Bachelor, Master and Doctor degree levels. Education at all these levels is consistent with the qualifications framework for higher education in the European Higher Education Area. Full compliance of the educational procedures at NSA with the criteria of the Bologna process ranks the NSA amongst the highest European universities in terms of its transparent and comprehensible qualifications, as well as easy and wide-spread recognition of its diplomas in the labour market. More information about the University can be found on the official website
